My Story
Hi, I’m Melissa Johnson, a passionate educator with a Master’s Degree in Education for Speech-Language Pathology (SLP) and certification as a Licensed Speech-Language Pathologist (CCC-SLP). Though I left SLP practice in 2009 to raise my three children—twins Hannah & Sarah (adults now), and Caleb (high school age)—my love for education never stopped. I homeschooled all three of my kids from preschool through high school, designing individualized learning approaches to support their unique needs and strengths.
With over a decade of experience teaching and creating curricula for middle and high school science in homeschool co-ops across Virginia Beach and Chesapeake, I strive to make science engaging, accessible, and fun. Whether it’s Biology, Forensic Science, Earth Science, or Intro to Chemistry, I love using hands-on demonstrations to spark curiosity. I get so pumped when a student walks into class and asks, “What kind of fun experiment are we doing today, Ms. Mel?”
Beyond the classroom, I’ve served as a middle school youth co-leader at The Bridge Christian Fellowship alongside my husband, Ryan, for the past 10+ years. I also serve with the ministry "Jeremiah Project," where my husband and I lead teams of middle and high school teens to Romney, WV for construction-based service ministries every summer.
I look forward to generating solutions for families and students to create meaningful and exciting educational experiences!
